It is most important that the telescope be quick and easy to set up. While it is possible to assemble the telescope at the observing site at night it is best to do this during daylight. This telescope requires two prople for assembly. The large parts are heavy and delicate.
The assembly process is simple:
- prepare the site, find three concrete pads with deep footings
- set the rocker box with feet on the pads
- carefully carry the mirror box and drop into keystone fittings
- install the safety pins
- the telescope mirror box will naturally point vertical
- install the truss tubes to the fittings on the mirror box
- install the hula ring, connecting to the truss tubes.
- carefully lift in place the nosepiece on the large ruby balls
- danger the tube will now be delicately balanced.
- engage the latches for the nosepiece.
- connect wires on one truss tube
- turn on the telescope computer
- activate the widefield eyepiece optical path
- move the telescope manually to sight two navigational stars
- the telescope will now be aligned and tracking
- the alignment will be refined during observing
It is important to take care of details. Loosen red transport bumbers. Open mirror cover petals using button or main screen. Orient the diagonal mirror to send the light to the big low power eyepiece.
